Awesome Things To Do In Christchurch Gap Filler

Gap Filler began in 2010 and has grown and changed over time to become an ongoing part of the city, bringing experiments and ideas to life.

Discover what is on in the city!

Access insider tips of the best of Christchurch with Open City, a new Gap Filler/ All Right? campaign project.

Open City is a celebration of undervalued, sweet, free things to do in Christchurch. It might be a good climbing tree in the Botanic Gardens, a quirky piece of street art or a great place for a picnic. These are just some of the many little secrets suggested by other locals and visitors which are being shared via a re-purposed parking meter in Cathedral Square.

24 hours, free

Parking meter is located at East end of Cathedral Square, near Cathedral entrance.

Dance-O-Mat is Christchurch’s much loved outdoor dance floor. Courtesy of an ex-laundromat washing machine, you can plug in your device, insert $2 and get yourself 30 minutes of lighting and sound. So lose your inhibitions like so many have and do and get boogieing outside, you never know who might come and dance with you!

Super Street Arcade by Gap Filler is New Zealand’s first giant, outdoor arcade game system that channels 80s arcade classics.

The current game (Winter 2017 is Space Raiders, an ode to Space Invaders and features a battle to save the icons of Christchurch from an Alien invasion).

Situated in the central city with a screen mounted on a building and oversized game controller complete with joystick on the footpath, Super Street Arcade requires players to get active as you move the giant joystick and jump on the over-sized buttons. A minimum of two players are needed to play, so make a new friend and have a go!

From early December, 2016 to Summer 2018
